Mrs. Bertha Pinchbeck

                                       Pembroke

Mrs. Bertha Lowry Pinchbeck, 92, of Pembroke passed away Friday, May 28, 2010, at her home at 116 Casey Road, surrounded by her family, friends and caregivers.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church in Pembroke.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Pinchbeck was preceded in death by her husband, the late Mr. Walter Pinchbeck, a legendary Scout Master and Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for UNCP.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. William Henry Lowry and Mrs. Crossie Maynor Lowry.  Two sons: Mr. William Henry “Buddy” Pinchbeck, Mr. Francis Pinchbeck, one grandson, Mr. Mark Schrader and a daughter-in-law: Mrs. Sylvia Pinchbeck preceded her in death also.  Three loving siblings preceded her: Mrs. Lockie Lowry Deese, Mr. Seavie Lowry and Mr. James Lee Lowry.

Mrs. Pinchbeck is survived by one son, Mr. Walter Pinchbeck, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky, three daughters: Mrs. Mary Alice Teets and husband: Mr. Edward of Pembroke, Mrs. Sandra Bond and husband: Mr. William Richard of Titusville, FL and Mrs. Helena Williams and husband: Mr. Ron of Beaufort, SC.  She also has 20 devoted grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Her childhood dream of being a wife, mother and homemaker was fulfilled when she and her husband, Walter, were married and given 6 children, 4 of whom were born on the UNCP campus.  She was a surrogate mother to hundreds of boy scouts who were members of Boy Scout Troop 27 in Pembroke.  In 2007 she was affectionately named “The Mother of Boy Scouting for the Pembroke Boy Scout Troop 27”. Her caring spirit was further demonstrated when many homesick UNCP students were invited to the Pinchbeck home for a home cooked meal and fellowship and that she was her mother’s devoted caregiver from 1974 – 1982.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 31, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 27 of Pembroke.
