Ms. Doris E. Pace, age 84, of 379 Reedie Lane, Pembroke was born April 16, 1925 and died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Hunter Houchens and Mrs. Ruth Houchens; eight brothers: Mr. Robert Houchens, Mr. Hunter Houchens, Mr. Edward Houchens, Mr. Walter Hunter, Mr. Clyde Houchens, Mr. James Houchens, Mr. Joseph Houchens, and Mr. Benjamin Houchens; one grandson: Mr. James Pace all of Virginia.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs: Danny Brooks, Willie Scott, Ronnie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Church cemetery.
Ms. Pace is survived by four sons: Mr. James Pace of Scottsville, VA, Mr. Charles Shifflett, and Mr. Paul Shifflett of Baltimore, MD, Mr. Larry Shifflett of Pittsburg, PA; three daughters: Mrs. Nancy Chavis and Mrs. Anna Cook of the home, Mrs. Gloria Gauer of Baltimore, MD.; four grandchildren: Desiree Shifflett, Lacy Shifflett, Paul Shifflett and Hannah Shifflett all of the home: three sisters: Mrs. Margret Haney of VA, Mrs. Hilda Ash of NC, and Mrs. Mary Dundley of FL., twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
