Ms. Mary Eliza Chavis Locklear Oxendine, 88, of Sunbridge Nursing Home, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. She was born April 24, 1920 to the late Mr. Warren Alvin & Mrs. Mary Bell Jones Chavis. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands: Mr. William Henry Locklear and Mr. Bo Oxendine and a daughter: Ms. Jennifer Locklear; three brothers: Mr. Hubert “Cubie” Chavis, Mr. Alvin Chavis and Mr. Henry Chavis; four sisters: Ms. Kittie Bell Jacobs, Ms. Ruby Jones, Ms. Downey Locklear and Ms. Nancy Catherine Lowery.
The funeral will be conducted Friday, April 24, 2009, at 300 p.m. at St. Anna Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs: Tony Miller & Dr. Kenneth Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Family Cemetery.
Surviving are a son: Mr. Carl Henry Locklear of Pembroke; two daughters: Ms. Marie Locklear of Pembroke and Ms. Barbara Ann Locklear of Ashville; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
