Al Glynn McNeill
Lumberton

Mr. Al Glynn McNeill, Jr., 75, of Lumberton, North Carolina was called to be with his Lord on Friday, April 11, 2008 while visiting his daughter and grandchildren in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Al was born in Lumberton, North Carolina on April 16, 1932 to the late Addell Cummings and A.L. “Al” McNeill, Sr.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Carl Jenson McNeill and Timothy McNeill and one grandchild: Briana McNeill.  Extended family and friends that he leaves behind are too numerous to count although he was a particularly cherished Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Locklear and her three adult children: Gene Locklear, Jr., Gina Locklear and Grant Locklear; the mother of his children: Charsie Lee McNeill; his four adult children: Michael Glenn McNeill, Rodney Dean McNeill, Judy Lynn Krendick and Brian Kieth McNeill; a blended family of nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five siblings: Cynthia B. Disbrow, Arlene Kocian, Audrey F. Russell, Harold McNeill and Blenda Sue Starling.

On May 30, 1950, Al graduated from Pembroke High School.  He then enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1951 and was honorably discharged February 1955.  He went on to graduate from Detroit College of Applied Science in 1960 with a degree in Production Engineering and Management.  Al became associated with the Masonic Order by becoming a member of Zion Lodge #1, Class of 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, and a Shriner with the Moslem Temple for 25 years.

Those of you close to Al knew of his passion for cars especially driving them fast.  He went on to have a successful career in the Cadillac business and was a distinguished member of the Cadillac Crest Club.  Later he and his two brothers; Carl and Harold McNeill, opened a car dealership in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1993, he decided to retire from the dealership and move back to his hometown, Lumberton, North Carolina where he met his wife: Dorothy Locklear.

Al loved to spend his days productively.  Whether he was working in the yard, working out at the gym, working on his business interests or simply taking a long drive to admire God’s work, he always lived for the moment.  His passion for life was contagious and those close to him benefited from his passion, his integrity and his loyalty.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 3008 at Calvary Way Baptist Church, 307 S. Jones Street, Pembroke, North Carolina with the Rev. Charles P. Locklear officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Burnt Swamp Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Way Baptist Church for the purchase of new hymnals to honor Al’s love for singing the Gospel.
