Mrs. Gretchen H. McGirt, age 92, of 342 Bryant’s Circle Road, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband: Bill McGirt; her mother: Georgianna Hunt; her father: Oakley McMillian; her sister: Nazova (Maggie) Hunt; her brothers: Delmour Oxendine, Luey Deese, Joseph (Nick) Hunt, Donald Ray Hunt and Sandy Hunt; her daughters: Billie Jean Ray and Gretchen M. Berry; her son: William Gordon McGirt; her grandson: Walter S. Roberts and her great-grandsons: Bobby Gordon Berry and Kameron Brett Locklear.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Cherokee Chapel Methodist Holiness Church with the Revs: Michael Cummings, Jimmy Locklear and Bruce Swett officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandcutt Cemetery.
Surviving are six daughters: Margaret Quick, Janie Spence, Sandra Cummings, Patricia Locklear all of Maxton, Peggy Swett and Becky Brooks of Pembroke; a son: William C. Ray of Pembroke; a step-son: Glenn Lucas of Winston Salem; a sister: Mary Jane Brewer of Red Springs and a brother: Harold L. Hunt of Pennsylvania; thirty-five grandchildren; eighty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-four great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 31, 2008, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
