Mr. Lacy Towers Maynor

Mr. Lacy Towers Maynor, 89, of 208 Bonnie Lane, Pembroke, North Carolina departed this life Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at his home surrounded by family and friends.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Locklear and Son Funeral Home in Pembroke.  On Sunday, June 8, 2008, a service to celebrate and honor his memory will take place at Prospect United Methodist Church at 4:30 pm, following with graveside services at Sandcutt Cemetery.  Mr. Maynor served in the United States Army during World War II in Company “L” of the 272nd Infantry from July 1941 to September 1945.  Upon his return from the war, he married the love of his life, Mable C. Jacobs, on July 14, 1948.  Together, they raised five sons and one daughter and served as surrogate parents to others within the family and community. Mr. Maynor retired from John-Mansville in Maxton, North Carolina after 14 years of service.  Additionally, he was a skilled carpenter and a productive farmer.

His love of his family and community was evident in the way he lived.  From generously and regularly donating blood to save lives to loaning his automobile to others at the expense of him having to walk, Mr. Maynor was the epitome of service to others.  The food he grew in his garden was freely given to anyone in the community who needed or wanted fresh vegetables.  He was regarded as a favorite uncle and brother-in-law.  He devoted many years of service to New Hope Church where he was a member.

Mr. Maynor was preceded in death by his parents, Elias Maynor and Tommie Jane Oxendine Maynor; one brother, Fred Maynor; three sisters, Myrtle Maynor, Mary Frances Maynor, and Helen Maynor Jones; and one sister-in-law, Irene Jones.

Mr. Maynor leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 60 years, Mable Jacobs Maynor; five sons, Wayne Towers Maynor of the home; Terrance Lane Maynor (Sharon) and Ernie Lyle Maynor (Carla) of Maxton; Christopher Bryant Maynor of Lumberton; Venus Jay Maynor (Cecily) of Pembroke; and one daughter, Mary Maynor Winfree (Bob) of Lumberton; one brother, Cleo Maynor of Pembroke; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren; three very special sisters-in-law, Lillian Locklear (Alton), Katie Locklear (Fred), Elaine Fedor; two brothers-in-law, James “Jimmy” Jacobs (Millie), and Julius “Buddy” Jacobs all of Pembroke, NC; a special niece, Carla Barnes; and a host of family, friends, and caregivers.
