Mr. Glenn Herschell Lowry, Jr. was born on May 19, 1949. He was the son of the late Mr. Glenn H. Lowry, Sr. & Mrs. Clara Lowry. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Baltimore Community College where he was a star baseball pitcher for the college’s baseball team. Herschell was a very talented young man. Other than playing sports he loved listening to music and dancing.
On May 20, 1969 Herschell was in an automobile accident that changed his life as he knew it. The accident left him in a coma for six months. Hershcell’s recovery was long and arduous, but he never let it hold him back. He took it as a challenge, building a new life that was happy and fulfilling.
While living in Hampton Roads, Virginia Herschell resided at Community Alternatives, Inc. He enjoyed working and had an exceptional work ethic, looking forward to going to work every day at Beach Packaging.
The funeral will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry W. Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Herschell was a loving and caring person who was devoted to his family. He leaves to cherish his memory; his sister: Debbie Eddings; two nieces: Mariah Eddings and Corinne Santana and her husband: Bobby; a nephew: Dylan Eddings and many other cousins and relatives in North Carolina where he spent many happy summers and “Ma” and “Pa’s”.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
