PEMBROKE
Ms. Vernie Mae Locklear, 84, of 222 Shelby Drive, departed this life on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Ms. Locklear was born in Robeson County on January 25, 1922, daughter of the late Shelby & Harriett Cummings Locklear. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Willie Blanch Locklear and John Astor Locklear; three sisters: Gladys L. Jacobs, Thesia Lowery and Veatter Cummings and a special niece: Mary Ethel Bryant.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Revs: Steve Strickland and Michael Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Airy Church Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Surviving are four sisters: Cathern A. Locklear, Lucy Griffith, Elier M. Revels and Mary Sue Chavis all of Pembroke; a special nephew: Harry Locklear of Pembroke and a special niece: Sue E. Brooks of Richmond, NC and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
