Mr. Vermon “Yokes” Locklear, 79, of 3460 Cabinet Shop Road, was born September 29, 1929 and died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home. He was the son of the late Mr. David Locklear and Mrs. Kattie Locklear. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Mr. Jack Locklear, Mr. Chanmus Locklear, Mr. Walter Locklear, Mr. Halse Locklear, Mr. Bennie Locklear, Mr. Carl Locklear and Mr. Will Locklear and Mr. Bradey Locklear and two sisters: Ms. Annie Ruth Locklear and Ms. Hattie Locklear.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs: Jimmy Strickland, Lamon Locklear and Purnell Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Locklear is survived by his wife of sixty-four years: Mrs. Leola Locklear of the home; three sons: Mr. Prentice Locklear and his wife: Mrs. Sharon, Mr. Spencer Locklear and Mr. Dennis Locklear; two daughters: Mrs. Mary Lois Oxendine and her husband: Mr. James Alton and Ms. Earline Locklear; two special nieces: Ms. Cletus Jones and Ms. Bessie Jones ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and a special family member and his wife: Mr. Britton & Mrs. Blondell Brayboy and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 3, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
