Mrs. Carrie J. Locklear

                                Lumberton, NC
    
Mrs. Carrie J. Locklear, 85, of 1644 Mt. Olive Church Road, Lumberton, was born September 23, 1926 to the late Mr. Angus and Mrs. Lillie B. Jacobs and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 24, 2011. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Johnnie Lee Locklear, in February of 1979 and by her beloved son, Mr. John Lamar Locklear in May 1979. Carrie was also preceded in death by three beloved siblings, Mrs. Lois Chavis, Mr. Glenn Jacobs and Mr. Ardell Jacobs.
    
Mrs. Carrie leaves behind to cherish her memory until the end of their days a son, Mr. Lynn Angus Locklear; a daughter, Ms. Melanie C. Locklear; and grand-daughter, Ms. Shauna Nicole Locklear, all of the “old home place” in the Saddletree community of Robeson County, North Carolina. She is also survived by three sisters: Ms. Janie Hunt, Ms. Evelyn Bullard, and Ms. Cheryl Howington; one brother: Mr. Hollis A. Jacobs. She also leaves behind, Ms. Charlotte W. McDaniel, considered by Mrs. Carrie, as an adopted and cherished member of the family. Mrs. Carrie leaves behind a host of relatives and friends with special mention of Ms. Willie Ree Chavis and Ms. Doris Hammonds Hall and two other special women known as part of The Jason Crabb “groupies.”
    
Mrs. Carrie J. Locklear was a devoted Christian, whose life ministry was dedicated to the service of others as she diligently visited and cared for people in some of life’s most difficult times. She always trusted in the Lord and was supported and influenced in her journey through life by special people and groups of people that were appointed by God including: “The Friends and Ladies” of Northern Virginia, The Pembroke Indian Heritage Group, The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2843, and “The Traveling Companions.” Mrs. Carrie led an extraordinary life. She attended college at Pfeiffer University whereby she left after one year to help in the World War II effort as a “Rosie the Riveter,” and later worked at Pembroke State College for Indians known today as The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Mrs. Carrie not only loved God and her church, but also her country. She was a devoted patriot.
    
Words cannot express the unique, elegant and special person that Mrs.  Carrie J. Locklear was. “To know her was to love her,” and to all that she knew, she loved.
    
The funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Revs: Harold Hunt, Jason Chavis, Ernie Hammonds, and Patrisse Locklear officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Locklear and Son Funeral Home.
