Mrs. Agnes D. Hunt, 84, of 7195 Deep Branch Rd., died Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at home. She was born on April 13, 1924, in Robeson County, to the late John Wesley Dial and Flora Agnes Bowen. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Hunt in 1997; four brothers: A.G., Vernie, Johnny and Tommie Dial and four sisters: Sarah Dial, Cammie D. Lowry, Fannie D. Locklear, and Macy D. Locklear. Surviving are a daughter: Paula K. Hunt of Alexandria, VA; and a son: Robert J. Hunt of Pembroke; and nieces and nephews.
After graduation from Magnolia High School in the Saddletree Community and from Pembroke State College, Agnes began a 32 year career as a classroom teacher in the public schools at Ashpole Elementary School and Pembroke Elementary School. Many parents requested that their child be assigned to “Miss Agnes” and God gave her grace and granted her the glory to not only teach young children but to nurture student teachers and to live long enough to look back on the many achievements of those whose lives she touched.
Married in December 24, 1947, she became a devoted wife and mother and she and Robert celebrated 50 years of marriage together. While she had a daughter and a son, all of her nieces and nephews were her “children” and they always look to her for advice. She never failed to encourage and challenge them to be high and outstanding at whatever they attempted.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 18, 2008 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. and other times at 7195 Deep Branch Road.
The funeral will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Dial Family Cemetery.
