Mr. Odgen Dimery was born May 9, 1936 and left his earthly home for his heavenly home on Friday, April 13, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
He learned to plow at 6 years of age, became a man at age 12(because he is a Dimery) and began serving his country by enlisting in the army at the age of 17. He traveled the world and spent almost twenty-three years defending his country including several tours in Vietnam and Korea. From that service, he received numerous medals including the Bronze Star.
After the service, he returned back to the home he loved, Robeson County. He then had a career as an owner of an upholstery business and instructor at Robeson Community College. He loved his church-Christ the Victorious Church, his church family, relatives and friends with a special place in his heart for the Steen sisters-Ms. Tela Brooks, Ms. Daphne Moser, Ms. Penny Steen, Ms. Mary Vargas and Ms. Gloria Jean Locklear(deceased).
Upon entering heaven, he was greeted by his father and mother: Mr. Javan Dimery and Mrs. Jessie Bell Locklear Dimery and his sisters: Mrs. Maitland (John Earl) Cummings and Mrs. Joyce Locklear.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Victorious Church in Pembroke with the Rev. Donnie West and Bro. Ricky Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Christ the Victorious Church Cemetery.
He leaves behind his wife of almost thirty years: Mrs. Sue Steen Dimery; two children: Mrs. Deborah Locklear and husband: Mr. Phil and Ms. Patricia Oxendine; two special nieces and a nephew: Mrs. Iris Locklear(Ricky), Mrs. Enid Begay(Darryl) and Mr. John E. Cummings, Jr.(Carol). He was also blessed with four grandchildren: Phil Locklear, Jr., Chandler Locklear, Kristin Locklear and Nicholas Oxendine and three great-grandchildren. He leaves in the earthly home three brothers and two sisters: Mr. Carlton Dimery(Irmgard), Mr. Charles Dimery(Blanche), Mr. Richard Dimery(Cathy), Mrs. Louise Weaver(Roy) and Mrs. Carol Oxendine(Thomas).
The family will receive friends Monday, April 16, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
