Mrs. Evelyn Locklear Cummings, 88, of 2852 N. Chicken Road, was born June 15, 1921 and died Friday, September 25, 2009, at Southeastern Hospice House. She was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. Woodrow Cummings; a daughter: Ms. Delilah Ann Cummings; a granddaughter: Ms. Melanie Lynn Chavis; her parents: Mr. Riley & Mrs. Willie Locklear; four brothers: Mr. Ronnie Neal Locklear, Mr. R.J. Locklear, Mr. Calvin Berkley Locklear and Mr. Paul Locklear and a sister: Mrs. Cordell Homan. She was a member of Harpers Ferry Baptist Church, the Ladies Chorus, the Homemakers Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
The funeral will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2009, at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church with the Revs: Donald Bullard and Chris Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the Cummings Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Cummings is survived by a son: Mr. Woody Cummings of Pembroke; a daughter: Mrs. Dianne Cummings Chavis of Newport News, VA; a brother: Mr. Sturgeon Locklear of Pembroke; two sisters: Mrs. Sussie Locklear Davis of Burke, VA and Mrs. Dorothy Locklear Maynor of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two special friends: Ms. Mary Sanderson and Ms. Mable Oxendine and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
