Ms. Rachel “Janie” Chavis, 92, of 5498 North Shannon Road, was born March 14, 1919 and died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Hugh & Mrs. Mary Woods Chavis; four brothers: Mr. Walter Chavis, Mr. Septer Chavis, Mr. John Bennie Chavis and Mr. Chancy Chavis; a sister: Ms. Leola Sampson and a special niece: Ms. Minnie Ree Locklear.
The funeral will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs: Danny Brooks, Jimmy Strickland and Ricky Deese officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Church Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter: Ms. Fay Locklear of Wagram and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home. |
