Dr. James B. Chavis, Sr. was born February 6, 1936 in Robeson County, NC, the son of Mr. Fred D. and Mrs. Macy B. Chavis, deceased. He died at home on Friday, February 26, 2010.
The funeral will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at Reedy Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Hilton Woodell officiating. Entombment will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his loving wife, Judy; his son, James B., Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; his sister, Joanne Wray of Cascade, VA; his five grandchildren: Mitch Joyner of Greenville, NC; Scott Parker of Sterling, VA; Branson Chavis of Pembroke, NC; SPC Drew Parker currently deployed to Afghanistan; Brooke Parker of Chapel Hill, NC; four great-grandchildren: Devin and Hunter Joyner of Greenville, NC; Andrew and Michelle Parker of Sterling, VA. He is also survived by a large extended family of relatives, students, friends and colleagues whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 28, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
