Mrs. Gretchen McGirt Berry, 58, of 241 Annadale Ave., formerly of Maxton, was born March 25, 1949 and died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Carolina Oncology Center in Salisbury. She was preceded in death by her father: Bill McGirt; a sister: Billie Jean Ray and a grandson: Bobby Gordon Berry.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Cherokee Chapel Methodist Church with the Revs: Jimmy F. Locklear, Bruce Swett and Dr. Michael L. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hebron Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband: Cecil Berry, Sr. of the home; three sons: James Dallas Berry, Shawn DeWitt Berry both of Maxton and Cecil Berry, Jr. of Salisbury; a daughter: Billie Jean Kennedy of Salisbury; two brothers: Glenn Lucus of Winston Salem and William C. Ray of Pembroke; six sisters: Margaret L. Quick, Sandra L. Cummings, Jennie Spence all of Maxton, Peggy Swett, Becky L. Brooks both of Pembroke and Patricia Locklear of Red Springs; her mother: Gretchen McGirt of Maxton; five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 21, 2007, from 7-9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
