MS. WENDY ANN BARTON

MAXTON

     On August 12, 2009, the body which carried this spirit finished its course in this life.  Ms. Barton, of 9931 U. S. Hwy 74, Maxton, NC died at home surrounded by her loved ones.

     Ms. Barton’s spirit remains alive in her surviving siblings:  Dolores Barton Dial of Red Springs; Paul Barton, Helen Locklear and Peggy Hunt of Pembroke; Emma Jane Brewer of Fayetteville; Mabel D. Locklear of Lumberton; Samuel Barton, Doris Barton, Sally Ann Bullard, Mary Ann Graham and Linda Barton Dial of Maxton; Wardell ”Buckey” Barton Jr. of Wagram, and Beachmon “Beach” Barton of Coatesville, PA.  The love of their cherished aunt also lives on in a host of nieces and nephews.  Ms. Barton was preceded in death by her parents and brothers George Lloyd and Royal “Pap” Barton.

     Ms. Barton was a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and was employed by the Public Schools of Robeson County.  Ms. Barton spent most of her professional career at Purnell Swett High School (PSHS) where she coached sports and enriched the lives of many students and their families.

     Services for Ms. Barton will be conducted on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Prospect United Methodist Church, 3929 Missouri Road, Maxton, NC.  Burial will follow at the Barton Family Cemetery, 9931 U. S. Hwy 74, Maxton, NC.

     The family will receive friends at Locklear & Son Funeral Home, 916 Union Chapel Road, Pembroke, NC on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

     In lieu of flowers, Ms. Barton’s request was that donations be made to the Girls’ Athletic Programs at PSHS, Attention:  Wendy Barton Memorial Fund, 11344 Deep Branch Road, Pembroke, NC  28372.
